Who's me? - Multiple Personality Disorder

At first, I never thought  that there's a condition in which two or more distinct personalities or identities alternately take control in the same person. That's really weird. And each personality is unaware or unconcerned of any others.

You might have this condition, you should be aware. Here's some signs and symptoms I got from wikipedia:

  • Multiple mannerisms, attitudes and beliefs that are not similar to each other
  • Unexplainable headaches and other body pains
  • Distortion or loss of subjective time
  • Comorbidity
  • Depersonalization
  • Derealization
  • Severe memory loss
  • Depresion
  • Flashbacks of abuse/trauma
  • Unexplainable phobias
  • Sudden anger without a justified cause
  • Lack of intimacy and personal connections
  • Frequent panic/anxiety attacks
  • Auditory hallucinations of the personalities inside their mind
  • Patients may experience an extremely broad array of other symptoms that resemble epilepsy, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and eating disorders.
If you have some of its symptoms, then you must go now to your psychiatrist.

Did you know that the NFL legend and Heisman Trophy winner, Herschel Walker, has this disorder. Herschel spent 12 years in the NFL, where he ran for more than 8000 yards and scored 61 rushing touchdowns.  But despite the acclaim he won as a football legend, track and field star, Olympic competitor, and a successful businessman, Herschel realized that his life was simply out of his control. He often felt angry, self-destructive, and unable to connect meaningfully with friends and family, he doesn't have a control to his emotions. Herschel turned to professionals to call for help and was diagnosed that he has dissociative identity disorder or formerly known as multiple personality disorder.
